The Laugavegur Trail, August 2016. 5 days of whipping wind, sideways rain, enveloping fog, surrounded by surreal volcanic mountains, lava fields, glaciers, natural hot springs, black arctic deserts and lush forested valleys. Everybody has a different definition of fun. For some it's sitting at home watching Netflix, or taking posh vacations to warm climates. For others it's being too wet, too dry, too hot, too cold, or too hungry in some of the most beautiful places on the planet. This is Type II Fun. Type II Fun is considered by climbers and mountaineers to be somewhat miserable in the present moment but an incredible experience in hindsight. Iceland is the very definition of Type II Fun. Witness the the Laugavegur in all its sullen glory.
